RELIGION AND VALUES

Dear Parents,

Religion and Values (R & V) is a key subject for all year levels at Sirius College. In R&V for both primary and secondary, we have been working to improve our students’ understanding in the essence of faith by reading stories, watching informative videos, getting students to roleplay, and discovering information they’ve never investigated before.

During this term, students are doing a comparative study of different religions and their places of worship. On Tuesday 1st May 2017 as part of R & V curriculum, students were provided an opportunity to visit different places of worship to broaden their knowledge about other religions. The excursion included a trip to the St. Augustine’s Church, Sikh Temple (Gurdwara Sahib) and the Muslim Mosque. At St. Augustine’s Church, the priest described the various aspects of Christian faith and the history of the Church. At the Mosque, Imam broadened students’ knowledge about Islam and the Prophet Muhammed’s (SAW) teachings.

Mrs. Pandher made a special effort to go to the temple and explained about the Sikh religion. The excursion helped to educate students about different religions, their places of prayer and the way they worship God. Students were able to learn about some of the artefacts and symbols found in the Mosque, Temple & Church, and know the purpose of some of them; reflect on their own feelings and responses to the atmosphere in the buildings. It is important to understand and respect other religions and throughout the trip we were able to achieve this.
